The mistake I made after redundancy
Updated: Sep 12
The biggest mistake I made after being made redundant was not valuing my worth.
The desperation to secure my next role coupled with a sense of shame and embarrassment from being let go completely knocked my confidence - btw, no one should feel shame after being made redundant but I didn't know that at the time.
When I did get offered a role, which in all honestly wasn't the right fit (a 30 minute drive, full time, a step down and less money), I took it.
I figured I could move and get my dream role next time, for now at least I had a job.
But that decision set me back years.

Financially, the salary drop meant I was playing catch up for a long time.
The commute and hours didn't work for me and my family, I was stressed and unhappy.
The role wasn't challenging me, didn't stretch my skills or push me to grow
I didn't stay there long but the ripple effect was huge.
Here's what I wish I'd done differently:
Not devalued myself, held firm on my worth and the value I bring.
Trusted the process and had the patience to wait for the right opportunity, not just the first one.
Taken a step back and reflected on what I truly wanted and needed from my next role
I'm now incredibly happy running my own businesses and doing things my way but if I could tell myself one thing it would be "You're worth more than a quick fix role."
